Cerebral Mass Lesions in Torulosis Demonstrated by Computed Tomography

Abstract
Cryptococcus neoformans is an ubiquitous yeast. As a budding type of fungus, it is also known as Torula histolytica and is a common cause of infection of the CNS, particularly in debilitated and immunodeficient patients. Patients (12) who had documented cryptococcal CNS infection were examined with computed tomography. Of these patients, 3 had mass lesions, while 9 others had a variety of changes, such as ventricular dilatation, cortical atrophy and focal ischemic changes.
