Abstract
The G3109A2 Space Module Power Supply was developed for use on the Galileo Probe and will also be used on the Huygens Probe. The 38V module can be combined in a series and/or parallel configuration to provide required system characteristics. The module consists of 13 “D” cells, G3108A3, connected in series with diode protection by a flex circuit board. The cells are encased in an aluminum housing with lightweight potting used internally to structurally secure the cells and PC board. The G3108A3 “D” cell has also been enhanced structurally to meet the requirements of the Galileo/Huygens probes. Considerable performance, environmental, storage, and safety testing of the cells and modules has been done, thoroughly characterizing the hardware. The successful performance of the G3109A2 modules during the Galileo Probe descent into Jupiter demonstrates its qualification for space use.
