Abstract
The apparent cause and location of the color in blue cotton has been studied. The color which appeared to be located in the lumen was not particularly resistant to conventional scour ing and bleaching agents. The controlling factor in the bleaching of blue cotton appeared to be lack of access to the blue color in the lumen by the treating solution. No ready means of rapid access to the lumen of the whole fiber was found. Diffusion of the blue coloration through the fiber appeared to occur slowly when the fiber was placed in a mildly alkaline bath at elevated temperatures. A bibliography is given. Keywords
