Abstract
Diode-pumped solid state lasers are now important sources for efficient generation of coherent radiation. The processes of diode-pumping of solid state laser materials are discussed and comparisons with previous technologies considered. We review techniques for short pulse generation and single frequency operation of these sources. Finally, extension of operating wavelengths through nonlinear optical techniques and diode-pumping of all-solid-state tunable lasers are examined. Keywords
