Colorimetric Assay of 5,5-Diphenylhydantoin (Dilantin) and 5- (p-Hydroxyphenyl)-5-phenylhydantoin

Abstract
Summary The colorimetric procedure of Dill et al. (11), originally described for DPH, has been modified to permit assay of both DPH and HPPH in the same sample of plasma or urine. In a normal adult subject receiving a single 250 IV dose of DPH, the maximum plasma level of HPPH occurred about 8 hr after dosing. A direct relationship was found to exist between the plasma levels of HPPH and the rate of urinary excretion of this metabolite.
