Abstract
A short general description of the main functions of a modern digital computer is followed by an analysis of possible applications of these machines in medicine. Four classes of work are discussed: straightforward scientific arithmetic, the organization of clinical records, elementary applications to diagnosis, and a machine-patient-physician complex. It is shown that the most urgent need at the present time is for all records, clinical or experimental, to be created in machineable form. Keywords
