Abstract
To the Editor: Reichman et al. believe that formula feeding itself leads to excessive fat deposition in preterm infants (December 17 issue).1 In the light of the data in their article and elsewhere2 we believe that they are mistaken. These authors gave infants a standard formula in increasing volumes as tolerated, until the age of two weeks, when the milk was replaced with the same volume of a formula with a higher energy density.1 , 2 They reported that a mean energy intake of 148.6 kcal per kilogram of body weight per day resulted in a mean weight gain of 16.8 g . . .Keywords
