Abstract
The flow of an axisymmetric jet of a conducting liquid in a uniform axial magnetic field is studied. The magnetic Reynolds number is low, and the viscous Reynolds number, R, is high. The first terms of an asymptotic expansion of the solution are obtained. The momentum in the jet is not constant but decays linearly with the distance downstream of the orifice. The flow is confined by the magnetic field to a tube of diameter R−1/4 which lies on the axis of the jet. Keywords
