Abstract
Fungi fluoresce red, yellow, yellow-green, or green against a dark background when stained in sections or smears with acridine orange and examined with blue light. The method permits rapid scanning of material for the presence of fungi. The method is simple, requires only 10 to 15 min., and can be used in a routine histopathology laboratory. The method demarcates an outer layer and an inner wall of the capsule of Coccidioides immitis, as has been observed by histochemical and electron microscopic methods. Keywords
