Primary Cutaneous Nocardiosis

Abstract
A patient with primary cutaneous infection with Nocardia asteroides is presented and pertinent literature briefly reviewed. The significant features of this case include the localization to a site of an old injury, and numerous recurrences after surgical excision of the affected area, despite brief courses of various antibiotics. Resolution of granulomatous nodules were obtained with combined therapy of sulfadiazine, erythromycine, and sulfone. The use of sulfone has not received adequate attention in the literature, but appears to merit further trials in resistant cases, even in absence of in vitro sensitivity.
