Abstract
E. histolytica strain 200:NIH cultured axenically for about 15 yr produced lesions abscesses in inbred adult hamsters following intrahepatic, i.p. and intradermal inoculation. These amoebae, even in much higher doses, inoculated into the ceca of adult and young hamsters failed to produce lesions or to become established there. 200:NIH axenic amoebae passaged through hamster liver (substrain 200:NIH-L) became established and produced lesions in the ceca of 1- and 3-wk-old hamsters. The degree of pathogenicity in the young hamsters was apparently inversely proportional to the age of the hamster. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
