Abstract
Instances of proved torulosis are rare. In Johns and Attaway's summary,1published in 1933, 46 cases of torulosis were described of which only 31 had occurred in the United States. In discussing Cabot's case2Mallory stated in 1934 that he had seen an unpublished manuscript in which approximately 80 cases of torulosis were mentioned. Since then about 15 additional cases have been reported. The diagnosis was established before death in only about half of these cases, but the disease was not even suspected in a considerable number until an examination of microscopic sections had revealed the true nature of the condition. The case which is the subject of our report was somewhat unusual because of the fact that the etiologic agent was demonstrated early in the course of illness and because of the relative acuteness of the disease.
