Abstract
The problem of producing basis functions for curved elements in the finite element method is discussed. An alternative method to the Rational Basis Functions method and the Isoparametric Transformation method is given. This method, called a High Order Transformation method, allows any degree of approximation, like the Rational Basis Function method, while retaining the simplicity of the Isoparametric method. A discussion of the calculation of typical integrals for the case of the three-sided element with two straight sides and one conic arc is given.
