Abstract
The authors describe a technique to encode full-color images in a compressed form for progressive transmission. The algorithm for progressive resolution and color transmission (PRACT) can be applied to the transfer of images over a communications line for on-line applications such as the retrieval of images from a database for immediate viewing. It exploits the high correlation between neighbouring groups of pixels in an image. Keywords
