Abstract
Sec-butyl 6-methyl-3-cyclohexene-l-carboxylate was substituted for natural angelica seed oil in the 1956-57 Florida Medfly eradication program when the world supply of the latter was temporarily exhausted. The 1st laboratory production was 84% as effective as the angelica seed oil at optimum application rates. Commercial production, however, ranged from 0 to 84% less effective than the laboratory product. Investigation revealed the presence of different proportions of cis and trans isomers in the 2 products. Batches with a high cis-isomer content were much less effective than an all-trans product. A commercial product having a high trans-isomer content proved equal to standard angelica seed oil and 45% better than a batch of the original commercial production. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
