Abstract
To the Editor.— In 1966, a solitary keratotic lesion was described independently by Lumpkin and Helwig1 and by us.2 The lesion did not resemble lichen planus clinically, but it was indistinguishable from lichen planus histologically. No clinical photographs were taken because of the mundane appearance of this lesion. Recently a photograph of an irregularly shaped, elevated, indurated, reddish-brown, scaly lesion, 1.5 cm in diameter, was obtained (Fig 1). It had been present for approximately two years on the forearm of a 51-year-old woman, a patient of Dr. Nardo Zaias. This lesion was strikingly different morphologically from her numerous other keratoses and lentigines. Histologically, the lesion proved to be lichen planus (Fig 2). To our knowledge, no clinical photograph of the lichen-planus-like keratosis has ever been published. We thought our photographs would be of interest to your readers. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
