Écologie et histoire : les origines de la savane du Bénin.

Abstract
N. L. Gayibor — Ecology and History: the Origins of the Benin Savanna. The Benin savanna is that big clearing, over 500 kilometers wide, from 0° to 5° E, that is from Akutse, in Ghana, to the east of Lagos in Nigeria, which breaks through the coastal forest extending from the Gambia to the Niger delta. An examination of settlement history, archaeology, and of climatic, biogeographical factors provides explanations as to how the forest disappeared to be replaced by this savanna which seems to be a product of both nature and history.Gayibor Nicoué Lodjou.
