Abstract
Parametric amplifiers have been used for many years in low noise receiver applications. Within the past few years, the development of direct solid state pump sources, such as avalanche diode and Gunn-effect oscillators, has widened the utility of paramps to include systems for which klystron pumped devices are unsuitable. These solid state pumped paramps provide low noise amplification in reasonably compact packages with low power consumption and excellent long term stability. Keywords
