Abstract
Efforts were made to estimate the daily survival rate (p) of the biting population of A. arabiensis in an urban area (Pikine-Senegal). During a 1-yr study 2370 females were dissected of which 1123 were parous (47%). A formula for calculating the daily survival rate is given. This formula is a simple modification of the parous rate formula and is derived from a geometric progression of rate p < 1. The best estimate for p was 0.82 .+-. 0.02 S.E. The work emphasizes that for a proper assessment of the survival rate, analysis of the population needs to be carried out over an extended period. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
