Abstract
Nerve-induced supernumerary limbs were used to study tissue interactions in the newt [P. waltlii] limb development. The brachial nerve tip diverted on the dorsal or ventral side of the upper arm gave rise to a strongly hypomorphic supernumerary limb. When a piece of skin or muscle from the opposite side was transplanted close to the diverted nerve tip, a normal nerve-induced supernumerary limb development occurred. A contact of dorsal and ventral or anterior and posterior tissues was necessary to allow the transverse axes to establish and a harmonious limb to develop. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
