Abstract
The structure of the encrusting thallus of Hildenbrandia prototypus shows a type of organization quite similar to that found in the basal crust of a certain number of erect Rhodophyta (Grateloupia filicina, Dermocorynus montagnei, Ahnfeltia plicata). This similarity appears markedly in the cytophysiological features such as the small cell size, the thickness of the cell wall, the type of the cytoplasmic inclusions and the cell arrangement. All these similarities seem to reflect an adaptational strategy. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
