Abstract
In this report, we describe two young women with pri- mary hyperparathyroidism and severe osteitis fibrosa cystica who underwent successful parathyroidectomy. Dramatic, sustained, and unprecedented increases in bone density, reaching 550%, were observed. These two patients illustrate a remarkable capacity of the skeleton to be restored to normal after surgery in patients with the classical bone disease of primary hyperparathyroidism.
