Abstract
Esophageal perforations, similar in many respects to the so-called "spontaneous" perforation of the esophagus seen in humans, can be caused in dogs by ligation of the pyloric and of the stomach followed by intramuscular administration of histamine-in-beeswax. Excision of the acid-secreting segment of the stomach not only prevents esophageal perforation following pyloric ligation, but also completely prevents the development of any esophagitis. Keywords
