Abstract
A 20% dust of crude hexachlorocyclohexane in gypsum was mixed with 2-pound lots of soil in quantities which varied from 0.01 gm. to 32 gm. Onion seed planted in the various lots of soil germinated but the seedlings did not grow in a normal manner in any lot of soil which contained more than 0.5 gm. of the 20% dust. The results indicate that the application of hexachlorocyclohexane to the soil for the control of the onion maggot is not without hazard.
