Abstract
Theoretical differences in the personality structure of the adolescent and the adult are presented. The difference in therapeutic technique is derived from the difference in personality structure. Treatment is divided into 3 phases: initial, relationship, and termination; differences in therapeutic technique are presented with case illustrations for each phase. The therapeutic importance of the mechanism of identification in the treatment of the adolescent is stressed.
