Abstract
In this paper we show that the phase response technique is a useful tool for deciding whether certain proposed mechanisms for chemical oscillating systems are useful or not. We use the perturbation of the Belousov–Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction by silver ions to test the predictions of the Explodator model proposed by Noszticzius, Farkas, and Schelly (NFS) compared with the original Oregonator model developed by Field and Noyes. The predictions from these two models compared with corresponding experiments lead to the conclusion that the Explodator (with the parameters presented by NFS) is unable to describe the essential features of silver ion perturbed BZ systems. Keywords
