Abstract
A spin-1 Ising model with both linear and biquadratic interactions is studied in the effective-field approximation of Honmura and Kaneyoshi (1978). It is found that the Curie temperature is double valued under the condition that the ratio of biquadratic to bilinear exchange constants is negative, suggesting the occurrence of the reentrant phenomenon. The results for square and cubic lattices are presented. Keywords
