STUDIES IN ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION. I. THE CLINICAL PICTURE AND DIAGNOSIS

Abstract
The clinical picture and diagnosis in a series of 378 cases of acute myocardial infarction are presented. The ages ranged from 27-89 years with 25% occurring in [female][female]- In [female][female] the acute infarction occurred on an avg. 5 yrs. later than in [male][male], had a slightly more grave prognosis, and was more apt to be preceded by hypertension and complicated by cardiac failure. Pain was reported in 90% cases, dyspnea in 76%, and cyanosis in 46%. Temperature was elevated in 66% and the pulse was above 100 in 47%. Friction rub and gallop rhythm were not found as frequently as reported by others. Only 50% of the cases were admitted with a diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction and 20% had no diagnosis referable to the heart.
