Abstract
The mineralized portion of the shells of reptile eggs forms a simple layer of calcium carbonate spheroliths, but in the eggs of birds an additional layer occurs in which arrangement is not spherolithic. The fossil Psammornis rothschildi, the only representative of the genus from the Miocene and Pliocene of the northern Sahara region, has a thick shell characterized by air canals less closely related to those of the Struthioniform and Aepyornithiform types than to the Rheiform and Dinornithiform types. Keywords
