Abstract
[male] and [female] guinea pigs were exposed to a moderate room temp. (20[degree] C.) and to 32[degree] C. for 2-6 wks. Adrenals and thyroids were studied microscopically after ingestion of thyroxine and in untreated animals. Adrenals varied chiefly in the degree of mitotic activity of the cortex and the distribution of the mitoses. The thyroxine-fed 20[degree] animals showed great increase in no. of mitoses and a redistribution. The 32[degree] animals showed suppression of mitoses in both sexes. Thyroid activity was suppressed in the hot room but returned to normal in some animals after 6 wks. Thyroxine did not further alter the picture. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
