Abstract
Air-silica microstructured fibers are designed and fabricated to yield numerical aperture (NA) greater than 0.9. A model is presented which accurately predicts the structural parameters required in order to realize high NAs. Such fibers have application in lasers and laser-induced-fluorescence systems. Keywords
