N,N-Dimethylglycine for Epilepsy

To the Editor: Despite the development of new anticonvulsant agents in recent years, many epileptic patients continue to have seizures. We recently saw a patient who had an apparent dramatic reduction in his seizure frequency after starting N,N-dimethylglycine (DMG). DMG is produced by dual methylation of the nitrogen moiety of glycine, and is a normal body constituent formed in the metabolism of homocysteine to methionine.
