THE OCCURRENCE OF VEGETATIVE CELLS OF CLOSTRIDIUM PERFRINGENS IN SOIL

Abstract
The numbers of heat-resistant and heat-susceptible forms of C. perfringens were detd. in 7 samples of soil. In each sample examined, heat-susceptible forms were found, often in large numbers. It is concluded that soil is a natural habitat of this species and that it is not necessary to postulate fecal contamination to account for its presence in the soil.
