Abstract
Why should healthcare staff be supported? For three good reasons: morality, quality and money. It is indefensible to expect carers to be compassionate and sensitive to those in distress, to hold the hand of a dying child, comfort the bereaved, or deal with anger and aggression, while ignoring the physical and psychological effects these emotions have on them.
