Abstract

Attempted to alter the reinforcement value of an event (E saying "mmhm") by pairing this condition with replies of either "right" or "wrong." Found that the induction of reinforcement value through contrast with some alternative reinforcing event can occur for events other than E saying nothing (previously shown) and is not confined to events which have zero reinforcement value at the start of the experiment.
