Uptake of Radioactive Sulfate by Elements of the Blood and the Bone Marrow of Rats

Abstract
Platelets, megakaryocytes, and myeloid elements of rat bone marrow took up s35 -labeled sodium sulfate in vivo. Peak activities of megakaryocytes and platelets were reached at 18 hours and 3 days, respectively. The results indicated a platelet life span of about 4 days and provided further indirect evidence of a relation of platelets to megakaryocytes. Erythrocytic cells of the bone marrow were not labeled.
