Abstract
Cavity resonator is introduced into microstrip structure. By eliminating the frequency parameter of cavity modes, microstrip antennas with metamaterial bilayered substrates are demonstrated the bandwidth enhancement. Lossy effects on the performance of the antennas are also considered. Finally, for less intricate antenna realization, single negative metamaterial-based microstrip antennas are designed with the same scheme and also achieve greatly enhanced bandwidth. Keywords
