Abstract
Microtitrations for glutathione (reduced) and ascorbic acid were done on microsections from various levels of the cornea and lens of beef, rabbit, normal and scorbutic guinea pig eyes. In the lens, glutathione is highest in the perinuclear regions, ascorbic acid in the subcapsular cortex. In the cornea, both glutathione and ascorbic acid are highest in the subepithelial stroma. In scorbutic guinea pigs, ascorbic acid declines to 0 after 19 days of deficiency, while glutathione is unaffected even in extreme scurvy. Distribution of ascorbic acid with histochemical methods was found in agreement with that found with microtitration. Keywords
