Abstract
As part of our investigations into the design and development of media for expressing and viewing dynamic processes, we have been teaching children from ages 8 to 15 the Smalltalk programming language. Our intention in this paper is to introduce a new communication medium with which young children create and explore powerful computing tools, including free-hand and programmed graphics, animation, and music synthesis. It is our objective here to offer suggestions and to specify guidelines by which teachers and learners can design, plan, and expand their programming projects. Keywords
