Assessment of Medical Care Needs of Individuals with Chronic Cardiorespiratory Disease Using Subjective Measures

Abstract
On the basis of a screening questionnaire sent to 3, 011 individuals a four-in-five random sample of positives and a one-in-six random sample of negatives were asked to attend for a physical examination. The examination was particularly concerned with collecting data with regard to respiratory and cardiovascular symptoms and information concerned with medical care utilization. It was possible to compare those who sought care as opposed to those who did not but suffered from the same degree of measured symptoms and to isolate various factors which differentiated the two groups.
