Integration Theory Applied to Judgments of Personal Happiness by Children

Abstract
Information integration theory was applied to study how children integrate verbal and concrete reinforcements. Five-year-old Indian boys (N = 64) received either praise or blame, and either one or five balloons for their performance on a simple motor task. They made self-judgments of happiness. The data obeyed the theoretical parallelism prediction, indicating that personal happiness follows a simple adding-type integration rule.
