Abstract
The migration of larval and juvenile fish from spawning ground to nursery ground is re-examined in the light of recent work. Because the hydrodynamic fronts in waters around the British Isles start to break up in the equinoctial gales it is unlikely that the larvae of autumn-spawning herring are retained near their grounds for very long. On the shelf off Nova Scotia distributions of larvae can be superimposed on those of eggs-of a number of species. This common observation should not lead us to believe that the migration of larval and juvenile fish from spawning ground to nursery ground does not exist. Keywords
