Effector Cell Activity in Antibody-Mediated Cell-Dependent Immune Lympholysis

Abstract
Lymphocytes from 52 normal individuals with ages ranging from 11 months to 92 years were determined for their effector cell activity, the ability to lyse an antibody-coated lymphocyte target, in the antibody-mediated cell-dependent immune lympholysis (ABCIL) system. Prepubertal males and females, and females in their active sexual age, have significantly lower effector cell activity than sexually active males or postclimacteric individuals. These findings suggest that male and female hormones may have some influence on effector cell activity in normal individuals.
