A "Free Manometer" Method of Using the Standard Warburg Apparatus

Abstract
The "free manometer" technique for the standard Warburg apparatus presents the following unique features: automatic recording by a time-controlled camera, certain small errors inherent in the process of levelling the manometer fluid are eliminated, readings can be made more rapidly, more frequently, and with greater ease, and arithmetical steps are greatly simplified, the capacity of the standard manometer is substantially increased while its sensitivity is correspondingly reduced. A total gas change 3-4 times as great as by the constant volume method can be measured without resetting the manometer. The method has been in use by the author and it is indicated that replicate detns. of CO2 and 02 by free manometer and constant volume techniques under diverse conditions agree satisfactorily.
