Pediatrics in Uganda

Abstract
In a nation where 44% of the six and one-half million population are less than 15 years old, the pediatric problem is complicated by a lack of doctors, medical assistants, nurses and exceedingly limited child-health services, except in the area around Kampala. The estimated over-all infant mortality for the country is 160 per 1000; mortality for children of preschool age is especially high during this nutritional and immunological transition period. The discussion includes a consideration of growth and development, social problems and diet as they related to pediatrics problems in Uganda.
