Abstract
Excised leaves, stems and roots of red kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) were incubated in solns. containing either C14-uniformly-labeled sucrose or C14-carboxyl-labeled acetate for periods up to 12 hours. The radioactivity of the free amino acids and the protein of the excised organs was determined. Differences in the radioactivity of the various amino acids were found, both between organs and between individual amino acids. The root protein was found to contain radioactivity which was 5 (sucrose expt.) was 6 (acetate expt.) times that found in leaf protein after 12 hours incubation. Keywords
