Wagner's Disease

Abstract
It is the purpose of this article to present two families with Wagner's disease (hyaloideo-retinalis degeneratio hereditaria), and to attempt to distinguish this disease from others which may be confused with it. During the past 40 years a small number of articles have appeared in the medical literature pertaining to diseases of the vitreous humor-retinal complex.15,18 Even as early as 1926 Schnyder1 spoke of fine fibrillary threads in the vitreous cavity. Since then a number of pedigrees have been published concerning vitreous humor-retinal degenerations. We have grouped the diseases involving this vitreous humor-retinal complex for our purposes into five distinct diseases which have a common denominator in that they all can progress to retinal detachment. Before a brief description of each disease is given and Wagner's disease is dealt with, we feel that it is important to point out that the group of diseases included under the broad
