Abstract
The rate constants for quenching of the 1B2u and 3B1u excited states of benzene in the vapour phase by various halogenated compounds have been evaluated by studies of the quenching of fluorescence of benzene vapour, and of the phosphorescence arising from benzene–biacetyl mixtures. In all cases, the rate constant for singlet quenching is found to be much greater than that for triplet quenching. Keywords
