Abstract
A single dose of vit. B12 containing Co60 (0.89 mg. equivalent to 0.18 millicuries) was administered orally to 4 normal rats. Urine and feces collections were made daily for several days. Radioactivity as well as microbiological detns. on samples of urine and feces and on various organs showed that a major portion of the vitamin administered appears in the feces and a small fraction in the urine, although significant amts. of radioactivity were also found in blood, liver, and kidney. Expts. on distr. between 2 immiscible solvents indicated that the radioactivity was probably due to B12 and not to free inorganic Co. These data, therefore, indicate that vit. B12 given orally is absorbed, though poorly. Keywords
