Abstract
Chronic myelogenous leukaemia (CML) rarely occurs in children. This study, the only Indian one in which Philadelphia (Ph′) chromosome was studied, lasted over 10 years and comprises 7 cases of CML out of 88 leukaemias in infancy and childhood. In 5 of these 7 cases, Ph′ chromosome was studied and was found to be negative in all 5. The Indian and the Western literature is reviewed and the rarity of the disease emphasised along with the higher incidence among Indian children, compared to the West. Keywords
